These examples are excellent demonstrations of how self-tapes can be dynamic and full of life. Nobody should feel restricted to standing motionless against a blank wall. I believe self-tapes should radiate energy and vitality. It's okay to risk going out of frame occasionally if it means finding the character's truth and the essence of the scene. "Shooting my coverage" is a technique I particularly enjoy.

As you can see, effective self-taping can be achieved on any budget. Many of the examples provided, as well as some of my work you'll see in upcoming chapters, are done in fairly minimalistic settings. Yet, they are brimming with life. The key is to live "fully" within the imaginary circumstances of the scene. Never hold back or clip your wings.
