Born with the stage in her blood, Alexandra's theatrical odyssey began under the tutelage of the late Marielaine Church, a luminary in the world of theatre, and mother to the renowned producer and director Jonathan Church. It was at Clarendon College, including alumni Samantha Morton, where Alexandra first trod the boards, making her unforgettable debut as Estragon in Samuel Beckett's existential masterpiece, "Waiting for Godot."
Academic Pursuits
Alexandra's passion for the dramatic arts led her to the hallowed halls of Brunel University London, where she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree with Honours in Drama, Film & Television Studies. This prestigious institution laid the foundation for her multifaceted approach to performance.
Mastering the Craft
Driven by an insatiable hunger for growth, Alexandra immersed herself in the world of acting techniques:
- She honed her craft at The Poor School, London, delving deep into the Stanislavsky Technique.
- Seeking to expand her repertoire, Alexandra embraced the Meisner Technique at The Actors Temple, London, under the guidance of Tom Radcliffe, a protégé of the legendary Sanford Meisner himself.
- Her dedication to excellence led her to a Masterclass with Martin Barter, who worked closely with Meisner until his final days.
International Experience
Alexandra's quest for artistic growth knew no borders. She ventured to the United States, where she:
- Studied Shakespeare with Tracy Aziz at the acclaimed Playhouse West in Los Angeles, co-founded by the illustrious Jeff Goldblum.
- Secured a role in a production of "Twelfth Night," sharing the stage with cult actor Mark Pellegrino.
Triumphant Return
Back on British soil, Alexandra's star continued to rise:
She delivered a tour de force performance as Lady Macbeth in a critically acclaimed production of "Macbeth," earning rave reviews. “Lady Macbeth (Alexandra Afryea) is undoubtedly the star of the show. Impassioned and with great presence and projection I could’ve watched her for hours”
- To prepare for this iconic role, Alexandra had the privilege of working with Lisa Wolpe, a leading Shakespearean actor and director.
Alexandra's journey through the world of theatre is a testament to her unwavering commitment to her craft, her versatility as a performer, and her ability to breathe new life into classic roles. With each performance, she continues to captivate audiences and push the boundaries of her art.
