Finding the story, and your character's place within the story, is the first step. Then we start asking questions - and then we're off and running!
Script analysis and discovery during the process takes off most of the pressure of an audition because you are more committed to, and therefore more focused on, what your character wants and needs in the moment.
Working with actors and sussing out stories and the entire process of bringing a writer's words and ideas into real, vivid life brings me great joy and delight, and it still fascinates and enchants me every single time it happens. It is art we're creating, but we are also truly making magic. The world looks to artists and their magic for hope and courage and connection and truth, as well as entertainment. Be proud! Marianne is a committed, fully immersed, highly skilled reader and coach. She knows how to work with you to find the arc of a scene, to uncover the hidden gems, and go beyond the obvious. She also excels in coaching very physical scenes. I had absolutely no ideas how to handle a car crash, rescuing someone, and then getting hit again. And she totally and completely had a plan that worked SO WELL. I simply would not have been able to do it without her. She is so supportive, but also she doesn't settle. If she sees a take or something that isn't quite working, she lets you know immediately and has a suggestion.
