I'm happy to dive right into reading or to take some solid time to discuss your character and your material, or any mix of the two.
Finding the story of the scene and your character's place within the story are great first steps. Uncovering your character's interests within the scene comes next. Although, sometimes the material gives you very little info about your character or the story, and that's when you get to build the story details yourself.
In either case, knowing the beats of the story gives you the freedom to play and discover and create magic.
