Jo Moolenschot

Jo attended the Cape Academy of Dramatic Art in Cape Town, South Africa for 3 years culminating in being cast as the title lead in the final year production of "Lysistrata" by Aristophanes. She graduated with an A.T.C.L. (Associate of Trinity College of London) in performing arts. She signed with Sybil Sands Artist Agency before landing a recurring role on the popular national television show "Backstage" (ETV) playing the character Susan, a recovering drug addict, opposite Langley Kirkwood.

During the following few years she went on to appear in guest roles on various national sitcom shows such as "SOS: Save Our Souls" and the widely popular "Madam & Eve". In addition to a cameo speaking role in the UK feature film "Charlie" (starring Luke Goss and Steven Berkhoff) she also appeared in commercials for Coors Beer and a worldwide campaign for Nokia NGage.

She was a founding member of The Actors Studio Cape Town which regularly received international guests and speakers such as Juliette Binoche, Steven Berkhof, John Boorman and Sean Mathias.

In 2005, Jo moved to London, UK and appeared in two fringe theatre productions written and directed by Katherine Hayes: she played multiple roles in the comedy "Barista Blues" and the lead role in relationship drama "After Venice" both performed at RADA's Gielgud Theatre.

Jo left acting for several years but is now making a return to the industry beginning with re-training under acting tutors such as Phoebe Blossom Sparrow (Downton Abbey), Scott Sparrow (King Lear @ National Theatre) and director Toby Wharton with much more planned in the near future.

Jo is enthusiastic about returning to her primary passion with dedication, a positive attitude, renewed strength, richer life experience and a greater understanding of what it can bring to a role. She is a versatile actor with a passion for storytelling, good comic timing, a natural style and always strives for a fully immersed performance. A reliable and committed performer who takes direction well, she is open to a variety of new opportunities both big and small and is always keen to collaborate with other creative people.
