Originally from a town of only 602 people, Herman Johansen is now a Los Angeles based actor, director and writer. He first pursued professional acting after moving to Kansas City in his mid-40s and earned his Equity card during an 88-performance run of Fiddler on the Roof. After a few years performing in theatres in South Dakota, NYC, Florida and Kansas in addition to Missouri, he moved to LA to be close to his grandkids and broaden his career. He has already enjoyed success in a variety of short films (one of which has played festivals in three countries so far), a couple of indie features and television. His training, intensity and dry humor have led to highly praised performances of richly flawed and complex characters.
His personal interests include reading paperbacks, cooking, hiking (including several of Colorado’s Fourteeners) and travel including Bogota (family), Honduras (cigars), parts of Europe, Mexico and all but a handful of US states. Herman is a sucker for anything that flies and has been airborne in everything from a vintage open cockpit canvas plane to hot air balloons and even a glider over the Pacific.
In addition to acting, Herman has directed many plays and one 22-minute video and is a writer (his full length drama, Fading Light, was selected for the 2015 NY International Fringe Festival).
