Stephen Horst

Hi!
I'm Stephen.
I'm an actor and also an Acting Coach. (tapintoyourartistry.com).
If you missed me here, you can always reach me at: stephen@tapintoyourartistry.com.

I've worked as a professional reader for ABC as well as countless casting directors.
I've also gone to producers at HBO and Cinemax as a Series Regular.

I help actors book work.
--which often means together we need to put in the work. (2-3 pages usually = 1 hour).

I truly believe if you want to stand out, you need to think of yourself like an Olympic athlete, and approach the material/story with a granular level of detail. This is especially true for those tricky Co-stars! (1-5 lines).

The good news is, this is Fun! -- which is why you became an actor in the first place, right?

Prepping your auditions to create a compelling character (which is really just a different version of yourself) that is both truthful and utilizes impactful choices to serve the story in the correct genre/tone/style is what I strive for every time.

Whether that is a last minute TV/Film audition, Commercial, EcoCast self-tape, Broadway play, musical, web-series, etc. my specialty is helping you Tap Into Your Artistry! (tapintoyourartistry.com), which I founded in 2007.

Together we will:
1) Find/create a character that spontaneously and truthfully serves the story through connection rather than simply reciting (memorized) lines.
2) Discover your "hook," a strong opening emotion that let's you launch into the scene lit up and ride it like a roller coaster.
3) Improvise and think outside the box talking around the lines (personalization) and find unique, memorable choices which leave a lasting impression on the casting director, director, producers, etc.--so even if you don't book the role, you book the room and are repeatedly called back until you do.
4) How to use the frame. --the icing on the cake that will quickly elevate your performance and make you pop on the screen as you solidify your illusion of pretend.
5) I have a strong musical ear so I enjoy accents: Southern, British, NYC, Italian, Irish, etc.
6) I've learned (and continue to learn) from some of the best elite teachers in the game from both NYC and LA: Bob Krakower, Ted Sluberski, Joseph Pearlman, Shaan Sharma to name a few. I'll pass on all I know to you.

I also have performed on Broadway, played many lead roles regionally all over the United States, and as an ASCAP songwriter/publisher I'm currently working with a multi-platinum producer and team of artists.

I can't wait to meet you and help you in whatever way I can that best suits your needs!

I can help you:
Drill lines (fast, concise memorization techniques)
Be your reader
Be your scene partner
Coach you

That being said, the longer we have to work together the more we can explore/discover:

15 min =$15 (a quick read, fast tips)
30 min =$27 (more detailed work, environment, relationship, unique choices)
60 min =$52 (Create a compelling character, carve out the story, and adapt it to the frame to have the most immersive experience possible)

“Actors are some of the most driven, courageous people on the face of the earth. They deal with more day-to-day rejection in one year than most people do in a lifetime. Every day, actors face the financial challenge of living a freelance lifestyle, the disrespect of people who think they should get real jobs, and their own fear that they’ll never work again. Every day, they have to ignore the possibility that the vision they have dedicated their lives to is a pipe dream. With every role, they stretch themselves, emotionally and physically, risking criticism and judgment. With every passing year, many of them watch as the other people their age achieve the predictable milestones of normal life—the car, the family, the house, the nest egg. Why? Because actors are willing to give their entire lives to a moment—to that line, that laugh, that gesture, or that interpretation that will stir the audience’s soul. Actors are beings who have tasted life’s nectar in that crystal moment when they poured out their creative spirit and touched another’s heart. In that instant, they were as close to magic, God, and perfection as anyone could ever be. And in their own hearts, they know that to dedicate oneself to that moment is worth a thousand lifetimes.” --David Ackert

Hi!
I'm Stephen.
I have gone to producers as a Series Regular for both HBO and Cinemax and can be seen on Netflix in "Luke Cage."

My wife, Alexandria and I live in Marina Del Rey, CA and we love it, just a 7 minute walk away from the beach. --sunsets are our favorite.
My biggest news is....I'm going to be a Dad!-- our baby daughter Maeve, is due Sept. 18th!

I'm originally from the small town of Arvada, Colorado.
I'm the youngest of 3, my parents now retired, were both teachers.

In addition to acting, I'm also an ASCAP recording artist and songwriter currently working with a multiplatinum producer and worldwide team of artists.
I often sing on demos and write songs with and for other artists.

On camera, I'm the strong, silent type.
I play characters who are masculine yet artistic, intelligent, sensitive, caring, likable, mysterious, soulful, and passionate. --Bradley Cooper meets Jon Hamm.
There's also a darker, more violent, sensual side to me, like Jamie Dornan in "Fifty Shades of Grey" or Christian Bale in "American Psycho.
Comedy also comes very naturally to me.
I often play the witty straight man like John Krasinski in "The Office" to more over the top like David Schwimmer in "Friends."

In addition to acting and music, I also own my own business, tapintoyourartistry.com, where I coach actors, train singers, and teach songwriting.

Ultimately, I want to create a strong, consistent body of work and to always grow as a person and an artist.
